0. Prodigy/Battlegnome 1981-2008 12/14/2008 07:53:43 PM PST

I would like to inform those of you who may have known Prodigy/Battlegnome/ Charlie and Mitch that he passed away tonight. Mitch has been battling cancer for the past 2 years, he died from complications resulting from a bone marrow transplant that he had earlier this year.

I am proud to admit that Mitch is my best friend here on Uther and the only achievement that’s worth noting from all the time I have spent playing on Uther was that of meeting Mitch. He was always making me laugh and he was always the first one to blink into a sea of red names and cast his aoe’s. He was always fun to be around with and he brought us all up. What made me admire Mitch the most however is not what he did in WoW. It’s how he carried himself…his family….and even us for the past two years. He was in tremendous pain and he never let on, showed a sign, made a plea to call attention onto himself. He was always so optimistic and gave us so much strength that we never had doubts about him coming back and joining our ranks.

Mitch, thank you for being my best and dearest friend. Your memories will always be cherished in my heart. Your relentless strength in the face of adversity will always be my vision of the power of the human spirit. I know that you are no longer in pain…you no longer will have to feel like an experiment and only the best awaits you now.

To Mitch’s friends and family. Thank you for your support and inspiration.

Please keep Mitch in your prayers.

Back in the day prodigy a.k.a. mitch was the icon people all knew who rolled with the Aranon pvp crew... I looked up to them like they were some kind of wow pvp Celebereties. I then got the privilege of getting to know prodigy and also being with him in the same guild as him. He turned out to be a down to earth kinda guy with so much optimism a zeal for life.. He loved his music and playing wow with his friends.

He will be sadly missed and forever remembered. So goodbye dear friend..Your memories will be with me forever. May u find happiness and joy in the next life..As u were cheated out of this one..

It's sad to know he's gone.. but like Aranon said, at least he's not in pain anymore. Mitch was as good a person as he was a player. In the 2+ years I've known him I've never seen anything but good from him. He was always the kind of guy that was like "Let's do this" instead of "nah... I don't feel like it". I'm proud to have known him and have him as one of my friends.

Rest in Peace Mitch... God knows you deserve it!

I'm really sorry to hear this news. Mitch was a great player, a loyal team mate and just a really nice guy. PVP on his team was the place to be. You never wanted to see his name in red coming at you, there was just no way to get away from those blades! It always seemed that he came straight for Rasberrie, too! Those were such good times and I have many memories of being slaughtered (and protected) by Mitch. I wish his friends and family the best during this time of sorrow. There is no doubt he touched a lot of us on Uther with his humor and good spirits. Rest in peace Mitch.

I didn't know Prodigy/Mitch personally, but even in this game when playing against him, and the odd time with him, you could tell how good a person he must have been.

For horde leveling through the barrens back in the day, Prodigy was usually part of the initiation process. Almost like a world boss for the low levels silly enough to flag.

Much respect and RIP.

No lexis could describe what I'm feeling at the moment. I've known Charlie for 4 years. Since those days in Crossroads he left an impression on me, a tiny gnome pitted against hordes of well...horde. Our camaraderie grew into friendship when I was in Incite/Money. To me Charlie was a great gamer, a grand musical artist, a person with a titanic heart, and most of all he was my dearest friend. I will genuinely miss him. Mitch, I love you. Rest my friend, one day will we convene amongst the heavens.

I am thankful to have had the privilege to play this game with the Gnome Mage by the name of Prodigy. At the start of the Uther server, I remember him being in a guild by the name of Riven. Some of the best moments I have playing on the Uther server were with Prodigy. One of my favorite memories of playing this game was a Scholomance dungeon run with him and some of his Riven guild members: Orson, Asmodia, Karbusch, etc. back in the day. Karbusch had passed out drunk or something during that Scholomance dungeon run and a while later while that Scholomance dungeon run was still going, Karbusch awakened like nothing even happened. What made this memory even funnier was that this Scholomance dungeon run took place over Riven vent and there were laughs to be had all around.

Another memory I have of Prodigy was when I would type the /cackle emote at him and his response would be like,"Nobody types /cackles at me." Prodigy was very charismatic and iconic to people around him in this game and away from this game as well. You could tell he was one of those people that you would want as a friend. He was the life to any party.

I did notice him not logging online as much as he used to and asked Drukel if he knew what was going on. Drukel said he was sick and eventually Prodigy told me himself after I got a chance to talk to him. Even with this ill informed news, he still played this silly game with his friends here on Uther. I, as others also have stated, admired his optimism which serves as an inspiration to us all.

Thank you Mitch for being my friend, rest well.

Ugh, where do i begin. This will be 6th attempt at writing this, trying not to break down. There is no way to sum up what type of person/friend mitch was.Mitch was one of the bravest people i've ever had the privilege of knowing. He rarely if ever complained about the lousy hand life had dealt him.On the last night of season 2 when we were pushing for gladiator , mitch had a temperature but refused to go sleep because he wanted us all to get our drakes. He was a trooper no matter what life threw at him.

I have many fond memories of mitch from staying up all night laughing my butt off with him on vent, to the infamous mechanar run where mitch was a little loopy from his medication/sleep meds and kept trying to solo the entire zone by himself. He'd get us all killed, we would rez him and we'd be like no mitch wait for us..and he'd pause for just a second as if to process what we'd just said before he'd go beaming off by himself to try to solo some more mobs.I don't know how many times we died that night rushing to his rescue but it was some of the most fun i've ever had. That is just the way it was when mitch was in the group, no matter what you were doing, or how things were going , you would always have fun.The guy was hilarious and a great friend.

Whenever mitch would log on i would always type "BATTLEGNOME!" in guild as if i was summoning some end all be all being of destruction and it makes me so sad that i will never get to say it ever again to my friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, who raised a wonderful human being.I wish i could give them all a hug and thank them for giving us our mitch even if for a short time.Ive lost one of my best friends.I will never forget you mitch, i miss you.

The first time I met prodigy he was level 36 defending Menethil harbor from my shaman Josh. This began our love / hate relationship. Not long after that he was level 60 and could be found everywhere pvping. I spent countless hours fighting him at cross roads then orgrimmar then menethil harbor then tarren mills then southshore, it was an on going battle between us. Then one day something changed, both of us where standing flagged infront of orgrimmar and neither of us made a move. After that he hopped on his level 1 horde toon and started talking to me. He influenced me to roll a mage which is my main now. Burning Crusade came out and I decided I was going to try the alliance side for abit. Hated enemies now became guildies when I got a invite to Money from Mitch. Soon after that you could find Whipps my alliance toon and battlegnome pvping side by side. The game is never going to be the same again with the loss of such a great peson. Rest in peace my friend.

I still remember the first time I met Prodigy. I was a lowly little 40 human priest, lost in this odd place called "The Barrens" that I had never been to before, straight out of STV. I had no idea where I was going from Ratchet, and then suddenly I see in general: "Prodigy: Don't hit sergra!" I made my way along the path to see a little gnome mage, solo, with an odd green name, hurling fireballs at guards and a horde player or two. I sat there, the realization that this was WoW PVP dawning on me, watching this mage nuke everything in his path. I realized that I was a healing class, and immediately healed him when gaurds started to attack him. I of course, unknowingly, flagged and pulled aggro, immediately causing my death.

I then see a pm from Prodigy: if you heal me, you will become PvP flagged, and the guards will chase after you. You might want to stay behind me and let me do the work until you hit a couple more levels.

This, in essence, was the Prodigy I knew: always helpful to a silly n00b way out of his league in a zone he didn't know, barely comfortable with PvP (which later drove my entire WoW career post Ascendance). He never judged, never scolded, always encouraged. Always willing to lend a hand and dole out advice, even to my stupid questions, he was a champ through it all. My only regret is that I didn't get to know him any further. RIP little brave mage.

When i joined <Money> he was unfortunately away due to medical reasons and i kept hearing stories in guild of his pvp prowess and saw how much the guild adored him. I remember when he came back seeing guild chat blow up and hearing vent go nuts with joy, first night back premade wsgs watching him tear people apart proved why i heard so many of the old horde members talk about him. He had helped me many times, was always respectful and helpful. Wether it was just basic questions, fun at stv arena, or even needing somebody just to talk to the guy was there.

I remember seeing Prodigy way back in the day; bombin on taurens, undead and the like at Tuaren Mill when I was around level 40... a while later I saw a video posted on these forums by Mitch wherein he took that fire power to Crossroads. Aside from admiring the ram he was riding and the tier 2 gear he was sporting when I was still getting rid of green gear... I noticed one more crucial thing about this pvp video that I rarely see... his music choice was perfectly on par with mine. After seeing this video I shot him a few whispers about his music choices only to find out that not only did we listen to the same music, we also lived relatively close to one another. For a while I would whisper him on his mage about music until one day I just never saw him log on...

Later on, I started a level 19 paladin twink for fun and ran into him once again, this time on a rogue named Slashflex, later becoming Prodigy the rogue. I began running with him and the twink crew for a little while. After that I stayed in touch with Prodigy, talking about music from time to time. There are not nearly enough people on this server or in this city as cool as Mitch, He will be missed.

My condolences to family and friends.

See you on the other side brother......

I had the pleasure of joining Mitch in quite a few premades over the past couple of years. I didn't know him anywhere near as well, personally, as many of you, and that saddens me.

He was always a laugh riot, and I never heard him scream at anyone in vent, which I would say is a rarity for someone who was as into the PvP scene as he was. He was very patient, and very helpful. Like Hansbrix said, I remember him warning me when I was pre-60 not to heal him so that I wouldn't get flagged and ganked, and that was way before we even knew each other.

I wish I believed in an afterlife so I could say that I'd see him down the road. But even if there is one, I'll probably be somewhere much hotter than him... and full of fire.

Rest in Peace, Mitch. You will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with the <Money> crew and Mitch's family who knew him so well.

-Bill

Wow, Prodigy was one of the initial PvP "staples" of Uther, as evidenced by the many battles at Crossroads. I believe we PvPed together a few times back in the BG days, but never really spoke or anything. Still, a shame to hear of someone passing so young, but I am happy to hear that he had many friends and loved ones with him; and that he maintained a sense of optimism even in his last days.

RIP. [ Post edited by Mesmerelda ]

I just do not know what to say... For those who do not know this Deathknight I am Notafilc (old school hunter) / Notaheal (the priest who rarely played) / Nota (the shaman trying to think he knows how to play) ... Mitch was an amazing player and a good friend to many people here on Uther. I am extremely sad to hear this news and I hope that his family makes it through these hard times okay. I played with Mitch and many others from Money for a long time and was looking forward to returning to see them all soon.

Mitch will always be the greatest gnome to ever touch this server.

RIP Friend

I was very sad to hear this news yesterday when Aranon and I were talking. He helped me so much with my rogue pre-BC. We got to know each other when I was with Incite. The thing I remember most about him was how pissed he would get if he lost a BG's or arena match. Him and Aranon would go at it all the time. I would stay logged onto vent just to hear these two go at it. LOL.

I wish his family the best in these worst of times.

AH Prodigy and world pvp.

RIP. Best wishes to your family. No words we say can express how he's missed among the Uther community.

His family already knows how wonderful of a person he was but I hope someone shows them this thread so they can see how many lives in this silly little game he touched and the friendships he formed.

Q u o t e:
One of my favorite memories of playing this game was a Scholomance dungeon run with him and some of his Riven guild members: Orson, Asmodia, Karbusch, etc. back in the day. Karbusch had passed out drunk or something during that Scholomance dungeon run and a while later while that Scholomance dungeon run was still going, Karbusch awakened like nothing even happened.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I remember that run. 3-4 hours of scholomance hilarity and one of my fondest memories in the game. I'm very proud to say I knew Mitch from my Riven days. Those are the times I cherish in this game the most.....to this day I've not enjoyed myself more than when it was Mitch, Orson, Karbusch, Asmodia, Healzz, kaleowns, myself, all laughing like loons on vent day in and day out.

Rest in peace Mitch, you'll never be forgotten to those who knew you......and thats pretty much the entire server. Miss you man.

60. Re: Prodigy/Battlegnome 1981-2008 12/17/2008 10:13:59 PM PST

I met Prodigy recently, I remember PvPing with him back in the day, but only recently did I have the opportunity to speak with him. He was always very upbeat, even while wiping on new content ( is aq20 new? lol...) and was a very skilled player, in PvP especially, but learned new PvE content very quickly. I had no idea he was ill until very recently, even knowing so when i finally spoke with him, I would never had assumed he was so ill. It is very sad that he passed, cancer is a horrible battle to fight, I have had alot of family fight that fight, and it's a long road, even after you "beat it", it takes its toll for the rest of your life. For him to be that upbeat throughout the fight speaks volumes of his character, and strength.

God Bless, and R.I.P. Prodigy. I hope you find peace, you have earned your rest. [ Post edited by Foofy ]

Well to start off im a RL friend of Mitch. I met him while we was in the army together. I was glad to see all of his ingame friends posted on here. im sure he would have been glad to see all the love. He was a great friend, and a very good person. He was a good gamer and he loved his uther friends. We tried getting him to follow us to different servers, but he always returned to Uther. I will miss him extremely. I will let his family know of this also, im sure they will apperiate it also. Thank you guys!

Thank you Dat for posting this sir, he spoke of you alot and well of you. And i laughed at your story Mike, we talk about that one frequently. :)

Mitch certainly was an Uther legend in his own right and a great friend to many. I remember hearing the Xroads stories back in the day, when I learned about his illness while one of my alts was in Money last year, I was both devastated and surprised to see how well he handled it all.

We may have chatted only a handful of times, I am still deeply saddened by his passing. Rest in peace, I know you're in a better place.

My condolences to this gentlemans friends and family,i am very sorry for your loss.I had the pleasure of being embarassed quite handily by prodigy more than a few times at crossroads, perhaps one of the few opponents i've faced that i could'nt get the upper hand on at least once,as well as one of the few players i've braught up time after time as one of the toughest players i've faced.

Wow, I am truly truly saddened. I've played Horde since launch, and him and I were frequently adversaries in pvp, especially in the early days of WoW in world pvp (barrens & TM!!!). At one point I even made an alliance alt just so I could tell him that I thought he was awesome, and we ended up getting in a really good pvp strategy discussion.

I'll really miss Prodigy/Mitch , Uther has lost a truly awesome member of the community, but he'll be remembered :(

Hey Mitch, I probably didn't know you nearly as well as many of the other people who have posted on this thread, but I admire your courage and strength to play this game even while you were sick. I hope that those of us on Uther who were blessed with your presence were able to easy your pain - just for a moment. Thank you for the memories and your service to our country.

God bless you and your family.
